Robin and Linda Williams
Devil Of A Dream

Sugar Hill Records

If there were any justice in country music, this record would be spending five to 10 weeks atop the charts. Alternatingly funny and morose, always thoughtful, sharply evocative lyrics and surgically (but not soullessly) precise instrumental work, this patchwork of Americana is a perfect gem.

Robin and Linda (celebrating 25 years of marital and musical partnership, this is their 14th album) and Their Fine Group (bassist Jim Watson and guitarist Kevin Maul) are augmented by the superb work of such players as Stuart Duncan, Tim 0'Brien and Rose Sinclair. They offer a virtual travelogue of Americana music styles, featuring everything from Cajun to bluegrass to folk to old-timey and straight country. And along the way they paint wondrous word pictures that stay with the listener long after the song is over.
