Robin and Linda Williams:
Why Hurry?

Dear Friends,
Happy New Year. We hope you had a peaceful end to 2021, that all things for you were calm and bright. We're slowly transitioning into 2022 and trying to keep the real world from ruining the memories of a not soon to be forgotten Holiday season. "Old Christmas," January 6th, is still a day away, so we"re taking it slow and keeping our lights up. Why hurry?

Our days were spent with friends. Especially memorable was Christmas Eve at a buddy's house where we ate fried oysters and then brought out a twelve-string guitar, passed it around, and sang our favorite Christmas songs. Then we spent a fun-filled Christmas night with four adults, two college students and a high school kid. The youngsters took delight in illuminating the adults about tattoos, gender pronouns and several other subjects best not brought up here. We thought we were up to date but found out how out of it we really are.

To help gladden our spirits we received the news from a newsletter reader (thank you Kate) that our song, "Shotgun Shells On A Christmas Tree" made it onto CNN's "Good Stuff" newsletter's Holiday List. What a hoot to see our song sitting there alongside songs we grew up listening to, with great artists such as Bing Crosby, Eartha Kitt, Johnny Cash, Joni Mitchell, Andrews Sisters, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder and others. Listening to the list of songs has not failed yet to bring on "that feeling" associated with this time of year. We'll probably keep listening occasionally, at least until we take the lights down. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6dC18W8Z9dSymZ4odg2NEs?si=0009f5c65d8e4954&nd=1

All this having been said, the real world cannot be ignored and, sad to say, COVID is still wreaking havoc for us all. We are so glad to have avoided infection, but it is taking a toll on our gigs.Ê We hated having to cancel the two Hank Williams tribute shows the end of December. This would have been our 25th year of doing these shows and we had such a good time preparing for them. We've sung Hank's songs so much that we sometimes think of them as our own. Right! If only! But we do take pride in putting our own stamp on his songs, and to not be able to sing them for other Hank enthusiasts was disappointing.

And this morning, after much anticipation and preparation, the screening of "Without Getting Killed Or Caught" was postponed. As part of the "Music At The Movies" film series in our hometown of Staunton, VA, we were to sing a few songs and host this special event. Ostensibly it is about the iconic Texas songwriter Guy Clark, but it really is about so very much more: his relationships with his wife, Susannah, and best friend, Townes Van Zandt, his role in the Nashville songwriting scene and his influence on other songwriters. We met Guy when we lived in Nashville, way back last century, and have admired and been inspired by him ever since. To make the event even more unique, Tamara Saviano and Paul Whitfield, who wrote, produced, and directed the film, were to be in attendance and participate in a discussion after the screening. The word we get is the event is postponed until early summer. Until then you can go to https://www.withoutgettingkilledorcaught.com/ for information.

But, on a positive note, and this is big news for us, the video of "The Old Lovers Waltz" from our recent CD, "A Better Day A-Coming," is nearing completion. We'll put out an official release about it as soon as we've received the final go-ahead which should be in a week or so. We love it and hope youÕll like it and help us spread the news. We're jazzed.

Bumper Sticker Of The Month: I have a photographic memory, but sometimes I run out of film.

Remember, music makes you smarter. Again, Happy New Year.

Your pals,
Robin and Linda
